For our LIBR 1035 class we are writing a blog.
To be honest, I never envisioned writing a blog. For starters, I felt that bloggers were either those who lived exciting lives, or people who's egos gave them the self-assurance that others wanted to hear what they had to say, however mundane. I was wrong.
Having visited some blog pages, I can see that blogs are about bring news from the masses, to the masses - sharing one's opinion and observations. Using blogs to share changes in hours of operation, or what interesting new items have arrived are a few of the ways libraries and blogs combine to keep their audience informed. Blogs have a definite place in the scheme of all thing library and any library can take advantage of the ability of blogs to keep people up to date on subjects that interest them.
The scope of library blogs out there is huge. Real Public Librarian (http://www.paradigmlibrary.blogspot.com/) is out in Queensland, Australia blogging about what she has learned at library conferences, how library policy can sometimes be odd and her personal experience with family attitudes to the library. Whereas Walking Paper
(http://www.walkingpaper.org/blog) concentrates more on the design of libraries and their websites with a great deal of visual entries. Both are interesting in their own way, although I will definitely visit Walking Paper again.
I hope that my blog can combine the mundane with the exciting and be entertaining and informative for the reader.
